Barcelona sign former Inter striker Rey Manaj for €700,000

Barcelona have signed Rey Manaj from Albacete for an initial €700,000, with the former Inter striker agreeing a contract until June 2023.

The fee could rise by €2million in performance-based bonuses over the next three and a half years, with 22-year-old Manaj set to line-up for Barca B in the third tier.

After starting his senior career with Cremonese, the Albania international – who has a €50m release clause in his Barca contract – moved to Inter and made six appearances for the club during a stint that included loans to Pescara, Pisa and Granada.

Steve Clarke says Scotland players have lifted him after Netherlands drubbing

Steve Clarke revealed the Scotland players had to pick him up following Friday’s 4-0 friendly defeat against Netherlands in Amsterdam.

The visitors more than matched their more illustrious opponents for the best part of 70 minutes but a sobering scoreline extended the Scots’ winless runs to six games.

Ahead of the friendly against Northern Ireland at Hampden Park, which also acts as part of the build-up to this summer’s Euro 2024 in Germany, Clarke reflected on a “peculiar game”.

Clarke said: “They (the players) have had to pick me up.

“I tend to sulk a little bit longer than they do, they move on a little bit quicker than I do because I probably have a little bit more to think about than they have.

“They have reacted well. When we…

Manchester City fans group urges FA to change Community Shield kick-off to 3pm

A Manchester City fans group has accused the Football Association of “doing the bare minimum” in amending the Community Shield kick-off time and called for a further change.

The 1894 group urged supporters to boycott the treble winners’ season-opener against Arsenal at Wembley on August 6 after it was originally scheduled for 5.30pm on Sunday, August 6.

After this and other complaints, the FA, in conjunction with broadcaster ITV, moved the game to 4pm.

This has not gone far enough for some fans and, while they are no longer expecting a “full boycott”, 1894 still feels the kick-off should be brought forward again by another hour.

A statement from the group, issued via the Football Supporters’ Association, read: “We repeat our request to the F…

Double injury blow for Boca

Boca Juniors have suffered a double blow to their title hopes with injury forcing Juan Roman Riquelme to join Lucas Viatri on the sidelines.

Both players had to be taken off in the club s 0-0 draw with Belgrano on Sunday, as Boca missed the chance to open up an eight-point lead at the top of the Argentine Primera standings.

Viatri s injury immediately looked the more serious as he failed to reappear after half-time, but there was also concern over Riquelme when he was unable to play out the 90 minutes.

Tests carried out by the club on Monday have confirmed early fears, with Viatri will miss the rest of the season after being forced to undergo cruciate ligament surgery.

To add to the club s woes, Boca team doctor Jose Veiga revealed an Achilles heel co…

Chelsea and Man City on Sterling alert

Chelsea and Manchester City are both ready to move for Liverpool’s Raheem Sterling after the winger turned down Liverpool’s latest contract offer, .

Having shunned an offer of £70,000 per week from the Merseyside club towards the end of last year, the England international has been offered a six-figure weekly wage though he is holding out for a more commercially based deal.

Bournemouth 0 Leicester City 0: Cherries dominate in goalless draw

Bournemouth and Leicester City’s difficult starts to the Premier League season continued as they played out an uninspiring 0-0 draw at the Vitality Stadium.

The Cherries dominated for large swathes of the game and will be disappointed not to have claimed all three points after carving out a number of excellent opportunities.

The best of them fell to Jermain Defoe in just the second minute as he crashed a shot against the crossbar, while Marc Pugh thought his side should have had a penalty when Danny Simpson blocked his goal-bound effort with his arm from the rebound.

Leicester offered little going forward, but could have snatched just their second league win of the campaign through Shinji Okazaki in the second half – the Japan international firing wide with on…

Bojan seals LaLiga return with Alaves switch

Stoke City forward Bojan Krkic has joined LaLiga side Deportivo Alaves on loan for the remainder of the season.

After enjoying a superb debut season in the Premier League following his arrival at Stoke in 2014, former Barcelona prodigy Bojan, 27, has failed to rediscover his best form for Mark Hughes side in recent campaigns.

The Spaniard made just five Premier League appearances last term, before spending the second half of the season on loan at Bundesliga club Mainz.

And despite starting Stoke s defeat to Everton on the opening day of 2017/18, he has once again been deemed surplus to requirements and will now link up with last season s Copa del Rey finalists.
