Villarreal have announced a deal has been agreed in principle for Brazilian defender Gabriel Paulista to join Arsenal, with Costa Rica forward Joel Campbell moving in the other direction on loan.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger spoke of his interest in Gabriel on Thursday and said talks were progressing well over the potential signing of the 24-year-old.

Gabriel is now set to complete his switch to the Emirates Stadium on Monday, with Villarreal taking Campbell on loan for the remainder of the season.

Luis Enrique: Neymar consistently great

Barcelona coach Luis Enrique has taken the time to praise Neymar ahead of Sunday s La Liga encounter with Eibar and feels the 23-year-old has consistently been great for the Catalans since joining them from Santos in 2013.

The Brazil international has been in sublime form in the past few weeks, netting four times in the 5-2 win over Rayo Vallecano last Saturday before setting up both of Barca s goals in their 2-0 Champions League victory against BATE, yet Luis Enrique is not surprised by his recent goalscoring exploits.

Are we seeing the best Neymar since he joined Barcelona? No, I don t think so. He has always been a great player for us, the Barcelona coach said at a news conference.

He is a very special player, a unique player. He has been great all these y…

Core Keeper Hits 3 Million Players

After spending over two years in early access, Core Keeper launched in full for PC and current-gen consoles last month, and given how well it has been received, and how well it did over the course of its extended early access period, it’s no surprise that the game has got off to an impressive start.

Taking to Twitter, Core Keeper developer Pugstorm has announced that the sandbox survival title has surpassed 3 million players. In November last year, while the game was still in early access, it was announced that it had sold 2 million copies. Following its console release, the game also became available via Game Pass, which is why Pugstorm and Fireshine Games are now reporting player numbers rather than sales. Either way, Core Keeper

Bookmaker:

The game of the weekend arguably gets underway on Saturday evening as Chelsea travel to Anfield to do battle with Liverpool. The Reds will hope to recover from their trip to Seville as they surrendered a three-goal lead at the Estadio Roman Sanchez Pizjuan while the champions will look to build on their emphatic victory in Azerbaijan mid-week.

Liverpool

Despite their difficult 3-3 result against Sevilla, Liverpool actually head into the home clash against Chelsea in relatively positive form. The Reds have only lost one game out of their last 11 in all competitions, that one defeat coming in the form of a 4-1 thumping at Wembley against Tottenham Hotspur. It is their attack that is in the most inspiring form …

AC Milan 1 Sassuolo 0: Rossoneri capitalise on Lirola own goal and Consigli red

AC Milan were aided by Sassuolo goalkeeper Andrea Consigli s howler as the Rossoneri moved above city rivals Inter and into third place in Serie A thanks to Saturday s 1-0 victory.

Riding an eight-match unbeaten run across all competitions ahead of this encounter at San Siro, Milan had been further boosted on Friday by their neighbours surprise 2-1 defeat at Cagliari.

And Gennaro Gattuso s side took full advantage as Sassuolo contributed to their own downfall, Pol Lirola putting through his own net before, midway through the second half, Consigli came out of his area but misjudged the flight of a long ball and hauled down Krzysztof Piatek.

Consigli was shown a straight red card, which effectively ended the visitors hopes of a comeback as Milan consolidated their …

AFC Bournemouth v Arsenal: Wenger pleased with Afobe success

Arsene Wenger believes former Arsenal trainee Benik Afobe strengthens the case for AFC Bournemouth avoiding relegation in their debut Premier League season.

Arsenal travel to the south coast on Sunday to take on Eddie Howe s side, who already boast victories over the likes Manchester United and Chelsea this term  results have helped them to 15th position, seven points clear of the drop zone.

Their cause has been bolstered by the acquisition of Afobe from Wolves during the January transfer window, with the 22-year-old striker repaying Howe s faith with three goals in his four top-flight appearances for Bournemouth.

England Under-21 striker Afobe led something of a nomadic existence during his time on Arsenal s books, moving on loan to six different clubs before …

Wales lock horns with Portugal at the Stade des Lumières in tonight’s Euro 2016 semi-final clash, and are underdogs to progress to the final despite their opponents having failed to win a game in normal time.

As for Wales, the Dragons topped Group B with six points, having beaten Slovakia and Russia. In the last-16, Chris Coleman’s side saw past rivals Northern…
